Fight Cancer. Make Time. > Leah McCleary

It’s been almost 20 years since Leah McCleary’s diagnosis, and she has since made sure every memory is cherished with the people she loves.

At the young age of 9, Leah was diagnosed with cancer. Now, having been in active treatment since 2004, she stands strong with every bit of determination, hoping to hear the words “cancer free” one day.

During high school, she navigated coursework, absences for treatment, bullying, and pain management. With the support of her father and mother, Jessica, she was able to graduate on time with the rest of her class.

While this is a moment she remembers fondly, “What I am the most grateful for though, is the birth of my son and every moment since then,” Leah said.

Being a mother was a dream young Leah felt she had to let go after enduring treatment for most of her life. Her pregnancy was a gift, one she never thought to be able to see naturally.

“Every moment since then with him is a memory I cherish,” Leah said.Leah McCleary holding son in sunset

From something as simple as cuddling on the couch with her son, quality time spent around the dinner table with her family, or breathing in the ocean air together, the small family of Leah, Joey, and their three fur babies Bailey, Hazel, and Bruno (a recent addition to the family!) are making as many memories as they can.

Now, Leah has been working with Total Quality Logistics for five and a half years and has made great adventures with wonderful people. Moving forward she’s looking to traveling more, accomplishing financial goals, and investing time in personal growth.

“The last year has been very challenging for me, but as I’ve always said, pain and joy can always coexist,” said Leah, looking forward to fully feeling the joy life has in store for her.

It’s the simple things that bring vigor and purpose to Leah’s life. Living! Graduating. Motherhood. And being an advocate with ACS CAN.

For her to now stand alongside ACS CAN, and project her voice to end cancer for everyone, is just one of many milestones to come.
