The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the American Lung Association, and American Heart Association commend the Dallas City Council's recent amendment to the city’s comprehensive smoke-free ordinance to include e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and other electronic smoking devices. This significant update reflects the council's ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health. It instills a sense of security in the community to know that the council is dedicated to creating a safer environment for all Dallas residents.

Dr. Cheasty Anderson has joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) as the managing director for the Gulf Coast Region, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. In this role, Anderson will lead ACS CAN’s staff and volunteers in each state as they work to advance legislation and public policies to reduce cancer.

A coalition of the country’s leading public health advocacy organizations filed a friend-of-the-court brief in Texas v. Mayorkas in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas to urge the court to uphold the Biden administration’s 2022 “public charge” policy.
