The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is deeply saddened over the sudden passing of our dear colleague and friend, R.J. Ours, who served with the organization for more than two decades, most recently as Colorado Government Relations Director.

On Tuesday, Denver voters passed Proposition 310 to uphold an ordinance ending the sale of menthol cigarettes and most other flavored tobacco products, including but not limited to cigars, chewing tobacco, nicotine pouches and e-cigarettes. The Denver City Council passed the legislation in December 2024. As part of the Denver Kids vs Big Tobacco coalition, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) supported a YES vote on Proposition 310 to help reduce tobacco use and improve health equity.

DENVER, COLO. – September 18, 2025 – United States Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO-1) received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award this week, the most prestigious award presented by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), in recognition of her significant contribution in the fight against cancer and stalwart support for cancer research and funding.

Health advocates from across Colorado expressed concerns Tuesday morning during a virtual press conference hosted by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) over the impact looming Medicaid cuts and changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace will have on Coloradans, specifically cancer patients, and the state’s rural population.
