Roxanne is a family nurse practitioner a federally qualified health center that serves many medically underserved and uninsured patients.
Every day, Roxanne sees individuals without health insurance who are forced to let their chronic conditions go unmanaged. She sees people who – with the right treatment – could lead healthy lives and stay out of the emergency room. “When people don’t have access to Medicaid, they go to the ER when things get too bad to manage. That’s costly and inefficient,” she said.
Roxanne knows first hand that the early detection of diseases like cancer, heart disease, and other chronic conditions would not only vastly improve the patient’s quality of life, but also would be a big cost saver. “If more people had access to Medicaid, it would help our state.”
