**MEDIA ADVISORY – PRESS CONFERENCE **

May 15, 2023

ALBANY, NY – MAY 15, 2023 – Oncologists and cancer survivors from across New York will gather at the Capitol building on Wednesday, May 17 to answer lawmakers’ questions about biomarker testing and ask for their support of Senate Bill 1196 / Assembly Bill 1673, which aim to improve New Yorkers’ access to biomarker testing – a tool that opens the door to precision medicine.

WHAT:  Improving Access to Biomarker Testing: Opportunity to Revolutionize Cancer Care in New York

WHO:   Oncologists, cancer survivors and patient advocates representing ACS CAN to host press conference on biomarker testing legislation

WHERE: New York State Capitol, Floor 3, Hallway between Senate Lobby & LCA Press Office

WHEN: Wednesday, May 17, 11:45 am

Speakers include Giovanna Whitting, a 21-year-old college student who credits biomarker testing with her survivorship following a pediatric metastatic thyroid diagnosis, as well as mother-daughter duo Mary and Charlotte Carlin, both of whom benefitted from biomarker testing throughout their respective cancer journeys with Charlotte undergoing the lifesaving testing at just 6 years old. Attendees will also hear from several oncologists and policy experts on how biomarker testing can improve survival outcomes and patients’ quality of life, often with reduced health care costs for the state.

Members of the media are invited to attend the press conference and interview volunteers, oncologists and ACS CAN staff members about the importance of expanding access to biomarker testing in New York.
