LANSING, MICH. – The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) honored Midland residents Jennie Coston with its Excalibur Award and Jen Dockum with its Volunteer of the Year award during Cancer Action Day at the Capitol this week.

“Jennie and Jen have been longtime volunteers for ACS CAN who have dedicated themselves to working with lawmakers to end cancer as we know it and supporting other Michigan volunteers,” said Monica Vernier, Michigan grassroots manager for ACS CAN. “They both use their voices to passionately advocate for those who hear the words “you have cancer” in Michigan. It would be hard to find two more people committed to the fight against cancer.”

These awards recognize the exemplary efforts of an individual who helps ACS CAN advocate for responsible public health policies and laws that will help fight cancer. To be considered, a volunteer must excel in one area of volunteer service or have committed multiple years of excellent service to ACS CAN.

The award ceremony was part of ACS CAN’s Cancer Action Day, which brought together cancer advocates from across the state to urge lawmakers to make the fight against cancer a top legislative priority.
