Protect the Right to Breathe Smoke-free Air

No one should have to choose between their job and their health.  And the science clearly shows that secondhand smoke causes cancer, even for those who have never smoked a cigarette.

We are working in local communities across Alabama to make restaurants, bars and all workplaces smoke-free, protecting all workers from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

This year, secondhand smoke will cause nearly 42,000 deaths among nonsmokers, including 7,300 lung cancer deaths.

The evidence is clear:

  • There is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.
  • Smoke-free laws reduce exposure to and protect people from secondhand smoke
  • Strong laws increase quitting among current smokers and reduce health care costs
