TSA Staffing Impacts to Travel

March 26, 2026

Due to a funding lapse at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, approximately 61,000 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents—about 95% of the workforce—are currently working without pay. As a result, travelers should anticipate longer wait times at airport security checkpoints nationwide.

In addition:

  • Global Entry enrollment has been temporarily suspended.
  • TSA PreCheck remains available, though travelers may still experience delays.

What This Means for Your Travel

For travelers with upcoming trips, we recommend the following:

  • Monitor your flight status frequently, as conditions may change rapidly.
  • Arrive at the airport earlier than usual to allow extra time for TSA screening.
  • Plan for potential delays or cancellations
