Volunteer Spotlight: Tammy Moyle

How did you first get involved with ACS CAN? I actually started off as a Staff Partner back in 2019 and loved the organization so much I stayed on as a volunteer.
How did you feel after that first meeting with a lawmaker? I felt genuinely uplifted. I’d been nervous going in, but the lawmaker made us feel heard and valued. Cancer touches everyone’s life, including theirs, and they clearly understood why advocating for patients and their families matters so much. Walking out of that meeting, I felt grateful knowing that amplifying these key issues could help make life a little easier for someone facing cancer — and that’s an incredible feeling.
What types of things do you do as a volunteer for ACS CAN? Being a volunteer with ACS CAN is so versatile! It can be going to meetings with lawmakers, but it is also sending emails, making phone calls, sending tweets, doing community outreach creating awareness, and doing fundraising events like Lights of Hope. There is something for everyone.
If someone said to you “I am not a political person, why should I get involved?” What would your response be? Cancer isn’t a political issue — it affects everyone, regardless of party. Advocacy today shapes someone’s tomorrow, and with the right support, we can make real progress in preventing and treating cancer.
