How did you first get involved with ACS CAN?
I first became involved through Relay For Life, and it's truly been the gift that keeps on giving. What began as walking laps around a track quickly evolved into a commitment to advocacy and my community.

How did you feel after that first meeting with a lawmaker?
After my first meeting with a lawmaker, I left feeling inspired and motivated to do more. That experience opened my eyes to the power of our voices, and it motivated me to engage lawmakers at all levels. Every conversation is an opportunity to drive meaningful change for those affected by cancer.

What types of things do you do as a volunteer for ACS CAN?
As the State Lead Ambassador, I mentor and train fellow volunteers to help them find their voice and confidence in advocacy. Together, we build strategies to advance cancer-related policies in New Mexico and strengthen our statewide network. In addition to my SLA role, I'm an active member of ACSi Se Puede Hispanic/Latino Advocacy Alliance. Through this Affinity Group, I collaborate with passionate advocates to advance our priorities and create positive change within the Hispanic and Latino communities affected by cancer and ACS CAN.

If someone said to you, I'm not a political person. Why should I get involved? What would your response be?
I’d say that’s great, you should get involved. ACS CAN is the nonpartisan advocacy arm of the American Cancer Society, and our work isn’t about politics; it’s about people. We stand up for our families, friends, and neighbors, as well as for those whose voices are often unheard. When you share your story and use your voice, you help shape policies that save lives, improve cancer outcomes, and bring hope to countless families. Together, we’re building change that rises above politics and makes a real impact in our communities. From the local level all the way to Washington. Advocacy is powerful because it turns personal experiences into progress. Let me share my story and why your voice and involvement matter more than ever.
