Why do you volunteer with ACS CAN?

I first became familiar with ACS CAN when I lived in Colorado. My best friend was a proud ACS CAN ambassador there. Ironically, she was diagnosed with brain cancer at 53 and passed away not long after. In part, I volunteer in her memory.

Secondly, as a colorectal cancer survivor and cancer organization leader, I feel called to stand up for other cancer patients and join my colleagues in advocacy. ACS CAN offers unique initiatives that empower us to make a meaningful difference—and I’m proud to be part of that movement.

Can you tell me about your recent grassroots efforts to speak to your lawmaker? How did you make your voice heard?

Yes, I recently had the opportunity to join other ACS CAN volunteer ambassadors from Arizona in meeting with our Tucson congressman’s office. We spoke directly with one of the representative’s team members and presented signatures from constituents concerned about the potential loss of Medicaid for vulnerable citizens in our district. We felt truly heard—and hopeful that our voices could help protect essential healthcare access in Arizona.

Why will you continue to advocate for cancer patients?

Because our voices matter! It’s not only our right—but our responsibility—to speak up about healthcare. Advocacy allows us to stand together and demand the care and support that every patient deserves. The fight isn’t over, and I’ll continue raising my voice until it is.
