Protecting Cancer Survivors Against Discrimination

April 10, 2013

Comments Submitted to the EEOC

Cancer patients and survivors deserve a workplace free from discrimination. To that end, ACS CAN responded to an EEOC request for comments on its regulations implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments of 2008. The ADA is the primary law protecting cancer patients and survivors from discrimination in the workplace. With the help of JAI attorneys, ACS CAN advocated for the maximum protection for cancer patients and survivors by providing the agency with medical information about cancer and remission, important legislative history on the ADA and cancer, as well as examples of legal cases in which the courts unfairly limited ADA protection of cancer survivors under the previous law. By submitting its comments to the EEOC record, ACS CAN will help the agency prevent such discrimination from occurring in the future.
