Closing the Gap: Affordable Cancer Care for All

May 31, 2022

Affordable cancer care is past due.

TimQuality, affordable coverage remains unavailable to more than 2 million people living in states that have refused to expand Medicaid. This is unacceptable. The Medicaid coverage gap is a very real problem impacting countless people each and every day – people like Tim Floyd from Guntown, Mississippi.

When Tim noticed a lump on his throat, he started saving money to see a doctor. It turned out Tim had cancer. If Tim had health insurance and had been able to visit the doctor sooner, he very likely would have been diagnosed when his cancer was at an earlier, more treatable stage.

“A little thing turned into a big thing,” Tim said about his experience. “That’s the hardest thing about not having health insurance. You don’t go to the doctor to get little things checked out.”

It is long past time for Congress to expand access to quality, affordable care for people like Tim. But first, they need to hear from you.

“I get angry for the people who don’t get the health care they deserve,” Tim told us. “Especially when we know that expanding Medicaid could help all of us.”

Tim is exactly right, and we need your help to get that message to Congress.

We need all hands on deck if we’re going to make quality, affordable cancer care a reality for everyone. From everyone at Team ACS CAN, thank you for taking action.
