Dr. Mullin: Cornwall, NY

Dr. MullinDr. Mullin has been a physician in the Hudson Valley of New York for over 30 years. She loves her job and went into medicine to help people live healthier lives. But too often, Dr. Mullin is prevented from helping her patients achieve health and well-being because of the cost of the drugs her patients need.

“Some of these necessary medicines are $300 a month,” she said. “I have patients who can’t afford that. They are forced to skip days or they can’t take it altogether, and then they get sicker because they aren’t able to manage their disease.”

Often, the cost of treatment needs to be a discussion in her visits with patients, and she and her staff spend countless hours working with insurance companies and pharmacies to try to find a solution. “We have to do somersaults to make it work,” Dr. Mullin said. “Think of what we could do with that time and energy with our patients if we didn’t have to do that.”

Ultimately, making medications more accessible and affordable would improve her patients’ overall health, and allow them to manage their chronic conditions effectively. Dr. Mullin hopes that in the future, the cost of a treatment that will improve someone’s quality of life and their health won’t be as unattainable.
