Today, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Erica Schwartz, M.D., as the next Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The FY26 appropriations bill included $47.2 billion for the National Institutes of Health, a $415 million increase over FY25 funding, and $7.352 billion for the National Cancer Institute, an increase of $128 million. Alex Padilla (D-CA), the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2026 offers a comprehensive policy framework that will help address health inequities that intersect with race and ethnicity as well as geography, immigration status, age, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, language and socioeconomic status.
