Kelli: Atlanta, GA

Share

KelliKelli, 26, is a full-time student, an artist working to shape a space for her community and works at a non-profit in Atlanta.

But her job doesn’t offer health insurance, and she does not qualify for Medicaid, leaving Kelli uninsured and unable to access health care coverage. If she had access to health insurance, she says it would be a life-changer: “I struggle every day with basics and it would lift a huge load of stress off my shoulders. Being a black trans woman, health care is important to me in so many ways.”

Kelli does her best to cobble together resources to meet her basic health needs, but if she had access to Medicaid, she wouldn’t worry about the choice to pay for a doctor’s visit or pay the utilities. “Women like me struggle daily to survive, and Medicaid definitely would make it easier.”
