New Poll: North Carolina Voters Demand Final Action on Medicaid Expansion

Poll by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Finds Overwhelming Support from North Carolina Voters on Medicaid Expansion, Including Intention for Lawmakers to “Get the Job Done”

January 17, 2023

RALEIGH, NC – January 17, 2023 – A recent poll by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) showed an overwhelming majority of voters (82%) expect the General Assembly to “get the job done”.

“More notable than North Carolinians’ strong support on the issue is their demand for lawmakers to work across the aisle and make a deal on Medicaid expansion,” noted Lucy Dagneau, ACS CAN Senior Director for State and Local Medicaid Campaigns. “Today’s findings make clear what we’ve always known: Medicaid expansion isn’t a political football, it’s a priority for all.”

Poll findings also showed broad agreement on the policy’s impact in saving lives and state dollars for the Tar Heel state. Voters expressed strongest support when presented with a data point noting that the policy, if passed, would allow more than 14,000 veterans in the state a path to affordable, quality health care coverage.

Notably, poll data revealed support for lawmakers to take final action strongest among Democrats (96%) and unaffiliated voters (71%). More Republicans favor expansion (64%) than oppose (30%).

The poll was conducted by Strategic Partners Solutions on behalf of ACS CAN.
