Louisiana House Puts Big Tobacco Ahead of Our Kids
Today, the Louisiana House of Representatives passed legislation, House Bill 525, that would lower the price of some tobacco products and would help the tobacco industry protect their bottom line, while addicting people with cheaper products.

Baton Rouge, LA - “Today, the Louisiana House of Representatives passed legislation, House Bill 525, that would lower the price of some tobacco products and would help the tobacco industry protect their bottom line, while addicting people with cheaper products. Tobacco taxes must apply to all tobacco products at an equivalent rate to encourage people to quit rather than switch to a more affordable product, as well as to prevent youth from starting to use tobacco. As we face skyrocketing youth tobacco use, now is not the time to make these addictive products more affordable for Louisiana’s price-sensitive youth. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network calls on the Senate to stop this legislation and protect the health of Louisianans.”
