Kansas enacted a 100% smoke-free workplace, restaurant, and bar law, which is scheduled to go into effect July 1, 2010. Currently 19 states have laws prohibiting smoking in restaurants, bars, and all other non-hospitality workplaces. An additional four states, including Kansas, have passed such laws and are awaiting implementation.

On February 25, the Kansas legislature passed a comprehensive smoke-free bill. Conroe, Texas passed a local smoke-free restaurant and bar law which goes into effect January 1, 2010. The new legislation currently covers restaurants and bars, but we will advocate for non-hospitality workplaces to be included when the council revisits the issue in 30 days.
