On July 12,ξWest Virginia'sξPendleton County Board of Healthξapprovedξ4-1 to remove the bar and gaming exemptions from their 2002 Clean Indoor Air regulation.ξ This makes their law comprehensive, with all restaurants, bars and workplaces being smoke-free.ξ This will take effect on October 10.ξ Congratulations, Pendleton County, WV!

On July 11, the Fultondale City Council passed a 100% comprehensive smoke-free law, which includes bars, restaurants and workplaces.ξ The new law will take effect on September 1.ξ Mayor Jim Lowery introduced the ordinance, citing the Alabama Legislature's failure to "address the hazards of secondhand smoke."ξ Great job, Fultondale!

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network recognized Maryland's Health Benefits Exchange as one of the model exchanges in our country to date. On May 26, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown announced Governor O'Malley's appointments to the Health Benefit Exchange Board. The appointees will be Dr. Georges Benjamin, executive director of
