In an effort to save lives from lung cancer, the State Legislature passed Assembly Concurrent Resolution 196 last July to designate November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month and Saturday, November 9th, as Lung Cancer Screening Day.

South Dakota voters on Tuesday passed Amendment F, which would change the state constitution to allow for work requirements to be added to the state’s Medicaid expansion program.

S.2971, An Act relative to medically necessary breast screenings and exams for equity and early detection requires that health plans regulated by the Commonwealth cover medically necessary screening and diagnostic breast imaging with no out- of-pocket costs.

Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the Cost-Free Coverage for Prostate Cancer Screening Amendment Act last week, following in the lead of the seven states that have reduced barriers to accessing prostate cancer screenings. The bill waives cost-sharing requirements for prostate cancer screenings for D.C. residents, meaning that men will be able to access guideline-recommended prostate cancer screenings without out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles, copayments, or coinsurances.

Governor Carney has signed HS 1 of HB 302 this week, making Delaware the eighth state in the U.S. to enhance coverage of prostate cancer screenings for high-risk men. The bill eliminates costs for certain patients to get these lifesaving screenings, thus reducing barriers and increasing access to care for men over 40 with certain risk factors.

Today, the Assembly Financial Institutions & Insurance Committee voted to improve New Jerseyans’ access to biomarker testing, advancing Assembly Bill 4163 out of committee. Championed by Assemblymembers Shavonda Sumter, Gary Schaer and Shama Haider, the proposal would ensure biomarker testing is covered by New Jersey-regulated insurance plans, including Medicaid, when medical and scientific evidence shows it would provide a benefit to patients. Advocates now look to the full Assembly to favorably advance Assembly Bill 4163 to the Senate.
