As ballots are mailed out starting Wednesday, April 27, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) urges Washington County voters to protect youth from Big Tobacco by voting “no” on Measure 34-314, which would repeal the county’s ordinance to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products. Last year, Washington County became the first county in Oregon to end the sale of flavored tobacco, and now the tobacco industry is funding the campaign to try and overturn this law.

BEAVERTON, Ore.—Nov. 2, 2021—Today, the Washington County Commissioners passed an ordinance to prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes and flavored e-cigarettes, making them the first county in Oregon to pass a flavored tobacco policy.

PORTLAND, Ore.— Beginning Friday, January 1, 2021, the tax on cigarettes will increase by $2 per pack and e-cigarettes will be taxed for the first time in Oregon, after voters overwhelming approved Measure 108 in November 2020.

On Tuesday, Oregonians passed Measure 108 to raise the cigarette tax by $2 per pack and tax e-cigarettes for the first time in Oregon. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) was one of the leading health care organizations working as part of the Yes on 108 campaign.

PORTLAND, Ore.— As ballots are mailed out today, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) urges Oregonians to vote yes on Measure 108. Measure 108 will raise the state’s cigarette tax by $2 per pack and tax e-cigarettes for the first time in Oregon.

Kathy Ottele of Salem was named the State Lead Ambassador (SLA) of the Year by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for her dedicated volunteer and advocacy efforts to help make cancer a national priority. This annual award is presented to a lead ACS CAN volunteer who has demonstrated exemplary leadership while advocating for ACS CAN’s priority areas of cancer-related public policy.

SALEM, Ore.—Cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones convened at the State Capitol today, February 27, for the annual Cancer Action Day at the Capitol, hosted by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, has committed $50,000 to the ballot campaign to increase the price of cigarettes and establish Oregon's first-ever tax on e-cigarettes on the November ballot. 

PORTLAND, Ore.—Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death, and this year tobacco use will kill roughly 5,500 Oregonians. Tobacco use causes nearly 30% of all cancer deaths.
