The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is expressing strong disappointment with the final passage of SB 680, providing a tax lower tax rate for heated tobacco products. Unfortunately, after relentless pressure from tobacco industry forces, the state legislature compromised and voted today to create a separate category for heated tobacco products and tax them at 50% of the cigarette tax rate

The Oklahoma House today ignored the clear will of its constituents and advanced House Joint Resolutions 1050 and 1077 out of committee, putting at risk one of the state’s most effective public health initiatives. These proposals would significantly alter and undermine the voter-established Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET).

Survivors, caregivers and advocates from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) gathered at the Capitol today for Cancer Action Day where they asked lawmakers to defend the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) from efforts to divert its funding or eliminate its board.

Gov. Kevin Stitt’s remarks requesting that the legislature pursue a roll back of Medicaid expansion threaten critical health care access for more than 250,000 Oklahomans.

Medicaid expansion provides access to essential health care services like cancer screenings and preventive care. Substantively changing the program would add barriers to care for thousands of state residents, leading to economic stress and diminished health outcomes for many.

House Bill 1389 by Rep. Melissa Provenzano, would eliminate out-of-pocket costs and expand access to supplemental imaging for women with elevated risk factors, including those who may need additional screening despite no abnormal findings. 

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Today, Cancer patients, survivors and advocates are marking the American Cancer Society's 48th annual Great American Smokeout by calling on elected officials across the state to do more to reduce tobacco use.

United States Representative Tom Cole received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award this week, the most prestigious award presented by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), in recognition of his significant contribution in the fight against cancer to increase research funding.

Today, Gov. Kevin Stitt signed legislation that will improve access to care for cancer patients by expanding coverage for biomarker testing. Senate Bill 513 will enable more patients to benefit from biomarker testing, an essential step in accessing precision medicine treatments.
