Ohio Senate Turning Its Back on Ohio’s Youth

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is calling on the Senate to change course regarding tobacco control funding in the budget. In the Senate’s budget substitute bill released last week, tobacco prevention and cessation funding was cut in half from the current year funding level of $14.5 million to $7.5 million yearly, which would have a devastating impact on our state's health and economic well-being.

House Missed an Opportunity to Protect Ohio Kids

Today, the House passed its version of the budget, which cut the additional funding for tobacco control Gov. Mike DeWine had included in his proposed budget. The governor had included $20 million annually for tobacco control funding, an increase of $5.5 million annually, which the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) strongly supported.

Gov. DeWine Stands Up for Public Health

Today, Gov. DeWine vetoed HB 513, which would have restricted the authority of communities to pass local laws regulating the sale of tobacco products that are stronger than state law.
