"Lights of Hope Night of Remembrance" to Honor Lives Touched by Cancer

August 28, 2025

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) invites the community to join a Lights of Hope Night of Remembrance and Advocacy in downtown Chattanooga on Thursday, September 4, to honor lives touched by cancer and champion the urgent need for continued investment in cancer research funding. The evening’s luminary tribute will provide an opportunity for reflection and fellowship by featuring hundreds of Lights of Hope display bags dedicated to those who have faced cancer as survivors, fighters or in memoriam. Attendees are encouraged to donate and decorate a Lights of Hope bag to honor loved ones.

The event comes as Congress prepares its annual budget against the backdrop of the president’s proposed version, which slashes funding for the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health, including groundbreaking research initiatives and cancer-related programs at the state. This would impact essential support systems that have contributed to advancements in cancer prevention, early detection and more effective treatment options. Attendees can learn about ACS CAN's advocacy efforts and how they can get involved.

WHAT:            Lights of Hope Night of Remembrance

WHERE:         Miller Park, 928 Market St, Chattanooga, TN 37402

WHEN:           Thursday, September 4, 6-8:30 p.m.

Lights of Hope is ACS CAN’s signature fundraising event, dedicated to honoring those who have been touched by cancer and remembering those we’ve lost. Funds raised through Lights of Hope help fuel work to make cancer a top priority for public officials and candidates at the federal, state, and local levels.
