Legislative Action Needed to Reduce the Burden of Cancer in Missouri

As lawmakers dive into the 2022 legislative session, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network urges legislators to prioritize access to Missouri’s Medicaid program and funding Show Me Healthy Women

January 5, 2022

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – “As lawmakers dive into the 2022 legislative session, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) urges legislators to prioritize access to Missouri’s Medicaid program and funding Show Me Healthy Women, both of which ease the burden of cancer.

“As lawmakers mull a variety of changes to Missouri’s budget this legislative session, ACS CAN continues to urge the legislature to allocate the necessary federal funding to ensure Missourians can access health care through the state’s recently expanded Medicaid program. Health care coverage through MO Healthnet helps improve access to primary care, preventive services, diagnostic testing and cancer treatment.

“Furthermore, we know that you are more likely to survive cancer if it is caught early. Therefore, ACS CAN is asking that the state maintain funding for the Show Me Healthy Women program, which offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for Missouri women who meet age, income and insurance guidelines through the Department of Health and Senior Services.”
