Jessica Gilbertson Joins ACS CAN to Lead Government Relations in North Dakota and South Dakota
Longtime Community Advocate, Organizer Will Strive to Make Cancer a Policy Priority
BISMARCK, N.D. — Jessica Gilbertson, a longtime community advocate and organizer, has joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) as government relations director for North Dakota and South Dakota.
The Bismarck native, a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, will lead ACS CAN’s efforts to advance legislation and public policy to reduce the cancer burden in both states. She previously served with ACS CAN as grassroots manager and also with Community HealthCare Association of the Dakotas as a policy manager. More recently, Gilbertson worked for the National Council of Urban Indian Health, directing communications, events and community engagement.
“I’m excited to work with our local elected officials, business leaders, volunteers, and community partners to focus on prevention and saving lives,” Gilbertson said. “As a breast cancer survivor I know that cancer has touched all of our lives. This work is personal to me and know we can make powerful change in our communities, the statehouse and beyond.”
Gilbertson earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Dakota and her bachelor’s degree in speech communication from North Dakota State.
