MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Emily Myatt was recognized as the country’s top government relations professional by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) in honor of her exceptional work advocating for cancer-fighting public policies.
ACS CAN, the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, presents the award to a staff person who has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in the areas of advocacy and public policy.
“Emily is an incredibly resourceful team member who has delivered significant impact by strengthening and adapting ACS CAN’s capacity and strategic campaigns in Minnesota,” said Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN. “She has established herself as a champion for all those impacted by this disease, and deftly represents their voices and experiences when leading successful public policy advocacy campaigns.”
Emily has served as ACS CAN’s Regional Government Relations Director and leads strategy for advocacy campaigns, volunteer engagement and fundraising efforts in her state.
“Emily leveraged her relationships at the capitol to make meaningful changes for cancer survivors in Minnesota,” said Britta Babel, senior grassroots manager for ACS CAN Minnesota. “I am so proud of her!”
The award was presented on Sept. 17 as part of the annual ACS CAN Leadership Summit and Lobby Day. Nearly 700 cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones met with their elected officials to urge them to support policies that increase funding for cancer research and prevention programs and address barriers that prevent diverse populations from enrolling in clinical trials.
