In a letter to Interview magazine Editor and Chief Mel Ottenberg, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), alongside the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Truth Initiative, and Vital Strategies, expressed strong disappointment with a recent cover story featuring images of Hailey Bieber smoking cigarettes. The organizations emphasized that influential media outlets like Interview should not glamorize tobacco use, a leading preventable cause of death in the United States, responsible for more than 490,000 deaths each year. Noting the magazine’s reach among young audiences and the well-documented link between smoking imagery and youth initiation, the coalition urged Interview to eliminate all depictions of tobacco and nicotine products from its content.
