Transforming Our Legacy – A St. Louis Story Virtual Film Screening & Live Q&A with the Storytellers

- The Black Volunteer Caucus hosted a nationwide, virtual screening of the short film, Transforming Our Legacy – A St. Louis Story and live panel featuring the storytellers from the film.
- The documentary highlights personal stories of three generations of Black St. Louisans including Kelly, her grandmother, mother, and childhood best friend about their lived experiences growing up in north St. Louis. It explores the ways that generations of policies, including segregation and disinvestment, have shaped the city's predominately Black neighborhoods and the health outcomes of those communities.
- Ms. Kelly and Transform 314 help educate, engage, and empower Black St. Louisans to drive the policy changes needed at the local level to create thriving communities. They accomplish this with edu-taining (educational + entertaining) content that activates residents to advocate for the betterment of their communities through local government.
- While this film is about St. Louis, the themes, health disparities, and need for policy change mirror many cities and communities throughout the country that are experiencing similar challenges. This film is a reminder and call to action to all of us that we have power and influence to transform our legacies.
VOICES of Black Women Study Fireside Chat hosted by the Black Volunteer Caucus

- A fireside chat on the American Cancer Society-led groundbreaking research study, VOICES of Black Women. VOICES is a bold step in advancing the American Cancer Society's commitment to addressing cancer disparities for all. With the participation of at least 100,000 Black women, this study has the potential to improve the overall health of Black women, creating a healthier future for generations to come.
- The panelists included: Dr. Lauren McCullough, PhD, MSPH, Principal Investigator, VOICES of Black Women Study, Dr. Yehoda M. Martei, MD, MSCE, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Division, University of Pennsylvania and Kirsten Sloan, Managing Director, Public Policy, ACS CAN.

Clinical Trials: Why Black Community Participation Matters
Dr. Sara Horton, Executive Director for Access and Diversity for the Quantum Leap Healthcare Collaborative, shares with BVC member Stephen Jackson the value, importance, and impact of the participation of the Black community in clinical trials. Dr. Horton demystifies common misconceptions about clinical trials and how increasing Black patients enrollment in trials improves the standard of care for everyone.
