How did you first get involved with ACS CAN? I applied for a research grant with ACS. I didn't get it, but my cover letter ended up making it's way over to ACS CAN. I started as an ACT Lead representing the eastern end of Long Island in NY-1
How did you feel after that first meeting with a lawmaker? Empowered!
What types of things do you do as a volunteer for ACS CAN? I help recruit and train new volunteers, partner with our incredible ACS CAN staff on coalitions, social media, letters to the editor, hearings... I also try to be a helping hand at events that support our affinity groups, share my story, and remind others of how impactful their story can be
If someone said to you “I am not a political person, why should I get involved?” What would your response be? Cancer doesn't care about politics either - it affects us all. ACS CAN is a non-partisan organization - we share our stories with everyone, because you never know if or how you might be impacted too.
