Volunteer Spotlight: Kai B. Cook

Role: Legislative Ambassador 

Hometown: Northfield, MN

How did you first get involved with ACS CAN?: Through my own history as a cancer survivor and the deep support to go for this work after landing a job at Northfield Hospital, where I worked closely with the Cancer, Care & Infusion Center and the incredible Dr. Jasmine Kamboj.

How did you feel after that first meeting with a lawmaker?: Refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to carry on the fight! You'd be amazed at how quickly the anxiety melts away once you walk out of that room for the first time.

What types of things do you do as a volunteer for ACS CAN?: write emails and letters to representatives from your state asking for further support, go out and meet these representatives to put a face to the name, and travelling anywhere I have the honor to be invited to as to continue to use my voice to fight against pediatric cancer. 

If someone said to you “I am not a political person, why should I get involved?” What would your response be?: The time to be involved, of all times, is now. I'm sure you're plagued by the feeling of not being a political person but still being bombarded with endless political news - especially the negative kind of news. However, this is an opportunity to use your voice to lift up the children of this country who need our support. With the threat of budget cuts to medical research seemingly always looming, the time to get out there and fight against pediatric cancer is now!
