It's Time to Increase Funding for Cancer Research

March 11, 2015

We are all just One Degree away from cancer. Each of us has a parent, a friend, a co-worker or a relative who has battled the disease. Yet funding for cancer research is down 26% since 2003, adjusting for inflation. Congress needs to know that we've had enough. It's time to restore funding for lifesaving cancer research. That is why the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has joined with our friends at Stand Up To Cancer to launch an unprecedented new campaign - the One Degree project. Together we are asking Congress to boost the federal investment in medical research by six billion dollars over two years, including one billion dollars specifically for cancer research at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Volunteers from across the nation have already shared their One Degree from cancer and taken action. Lifesaving cancer treatments have one thing in common - they begin with basic research, often led by the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. Scientists say the next major cancer breakthrough could be very close. But without more lifesaving cancer research, it will remain out of reach. Congress needs to know that cancer touches ALL of us. Join our movement to increase cancer research funding and save more lives.  Cancer hits hard - together, we are fighting back.
