How enhanced tax credits make cancer care affordable for patients like Ali
For over 20 years, Ali spent much of her time caring for others as a nurse and a single mother of two.
Even though we don't all always agree on ways to fix the system, the fact that we are working together and listening to each other puts us light years ahead of where we were 15 years ago.
Having been around these issues for a long time, I was one of the skeptics about whether we could actually bring about real change given how broken the system is and how entrenched some of the "old thinking" has been. But it really is a new day and you can feel the momentum behind reform.
ACS CAN has been part of the momentum and has been encouraging people to come to the table. We can't expect to fix the economy if we don't fix health care too -- and do it in a way that will work for all Americans. That means we have to build on what works in our system and fix what's broken.
ACS CAN is now part of the latest diverse partners effort called Healthy Economy Now, running powerful TV ads across the country to make the case that to fix the economy we do have to fix health care and we need to do it now. This fits in very well with the emphasis that ACS CAN has placed on the need for action NOW not LATER. Healthy Economy Now involves ACS CAN, AARP, SEIU, PhRMA, AdvaMed, BIO, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, AMA and the Business Round Table all coming together to press this issue forward. It's an impressive list that's sure to get the attention of policymakers.
Sure, the details of reform will be tough to work out. But with this much commitment from across the board in the health care field, we are well on our way to figuring out how to solve this problem and make things better for people who face cancer.
