Governor's Commitment to Signing Indoor Tanning Leg

February 5, 2016

BOSTON – February 5, 2016 – This statement is being issued in response to Governor Baker’s commitment to signing into law SB1994, which will prevent youth under the age of 18 from using indoor tanning devices, and can be attributed to Marc Hymovitz, director of government relations in Massachusetts for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).

“The research is clear – tanning devices cause cancer. Today, Governor Baker has taken a critical step in ensuring Massachusetts youth are protected from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, by preventing them from using indoor tanning devices. ACS CAN applauds Governor Baker’s and the legislatures’ work in preventing future skin cancer diagnoses and saving lives.”

ACS CAN, the nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.  ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority.
