Game On, Cancer

October 20, 2009
Today, ACS CAN teamed up with the NFL on Capitol Hill to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. As part of a new partnership with the NFL, known as the" Crucial Catch Campaign," representatives from the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens joined with area breast cancer survivors and advocates to urge Congress to make breast cancer screening available to all eligible women, regardless of their ability to pay.

Tanya Snyder, survivor and wife of Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, shared her personal story and ability to overcome her diagnosis because of early detection. Redskins Guard Derrick Dockery shared that early detection saved his motherŠ—Ès life. Gail Carey, a survivor and recipient of treatment thanks to federal funding shared her story and the fact that being a 7-year survivor has allowed her to see her daughter marry and enjoy her beautiful grandson Š—– neither of which would have been possible without early detection. The event was hosted by Maryland Representative, Donna Edwards with an amazing backdrop of the Capitol behind the speakers. It was a beautiful day, made more spectacular by the more than a dozen DC area breast cancer survivors, living proof that early detection saves lives.
