Letter: Bill supports biomarker testing

On May 19 and 20, 29 cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones from across the country will travel to Washington, DC, to participate in the ACS CAN "Surviving the System: Why Cancer Patients Need Health Care Reform NOW" Lobby Day.
ACS CAN staff and the patients will take the message to Capitol Hill that cancer patients and survivors need health care reform now, not later, by sharing personal stories with their elected officials. Their stories personify the experiences of cancer patients and families from all over the U.S. Far too often cancer patients and survivors are forced to choose between saving their life and their life savings. Cancer patients experience the most serious problems in our health care system, and ACS CAN believes that if we can fix the system for them, we will fix it for just about everyone who needs health care. To learn more about the holes in the private insurance system that cancer patients and survivors face, read a recent co-branded report from the Kaiser Family Foundation and the American Cancer Society. "Spending to Survive: Cancer Patients Confront Holes in the Health Insurance System" profiles 20 cancer patients and survivors from across the country who had private health insurance that did not protect them from running up large debt, filing for bankruptcy, and delaying or forgoing lifesaving cancer treatment in wake of their diagnosis. The patients and their caregivers will also be guest blogging on the ACS CAN Health Care Reform Blog and tweeting from twitter.com/acscan.
