ACS CAN Applauds NYC Cancer Consortium For Letter to Speaker Johnson

February 4, 2020--Earlier this morning the NYC Cancer Consortium, which includes the five NYC Cancer Centers designated by the National Cancer Institute, delivered a letter to New York Council Speaker Corey Johnson in support of Introduction 1345, which would restrict the sale of menthol cigarettes in New York City. ACS CAN applauds the NYC Cancer Consortium and the cancer centers for supporting the campaign to restrict the sale of menthol cigarettes. The letter can be found here. 

The cancer centers included in the letter are:

  • Albert Einstein College of Medicine

  • Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

  • NYU Langone Health

  • Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Health System

  • New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center

"The NYC Cancer Consortium and each of the cancer centers who signed the letter have been valuable partners in the fight to prevent more lives from being lost to tobacco-related illnesses, said Michael Davoli, Director, Government Relations, New York Metro, ACS CAN. "These cancer center do their part every day to treat tobacco-related cancer. I only hope that Speaker Johnson will do his part to prevent these cancers in the first place."
