Cancer Patients Need Access to Palliative Care

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. It's provided by a team of doctors, nurses and other health care professionals working together with the patient, their family and caregivers. The team works with the patient to control pain and other symptoms, understand the patient's goals, and explain treatment options so the patient can choose what is best.

ACS CAN successfully advocated in 2017 for legislation that would require the Virginia Department of Health to include resources on its website that will make information about available palliative care services easily accessible to patients and medical professionals.
