ACS CAN Opposes Amendment 4

For over 100 years, Missouri’s initiative petition process has given citizens a way to act when elected officials won’t.  It has been an important check on government power and a tool to expand access to cancer care and save lives.  

As a leading voice for cancer patients and their families in Missouri, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) believes every Missourian should have the opportunity to prevent cancer, detect it early, and access lifesaving treatment. Unfortunately, Amendment 4 would make it harder for citizens' voices to be heard in the policymaking process while increasing the influence of well-funded special interests, including the tobacco industry. As a result, Missourians could face greater challenges in advancing public policies that reduce cancer risk, improve access to care, and save lives.

For these reasons, ACS CAN opposes Amendment 4.
