COLUMBIA, S.C. – (March 7, 2017) – Earlier today, Coastal Carolina Baseball Coach Gary Gilmore joined dozens of South Carolina legislators in lacing up their sneakers to demonstrate support for cancer survivors, patients and caregivers as well as to honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Legislation to raise the state’s cigarette tax by $1.50 per pack and impose an equivalent tax on other tobacco products including cigars, smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarettes is gaining support and not just from public health groups.

When asked if they favored increasing tobacco taxes to help balance the budget, 70 percent of respondents said yes – with 46 percent indicating they strongly favor the proposal.
