Maine Statehouse Update for 4/3/09

A solid victory today in the fight to protect children from Big Tobacco! By a strong bipartisan majority of 298 to 112, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (HR 1256).

Health and Human Services gave their feedback to Appropriations this week, and they accepted most of the Governor's cuts. It was not easy for them, and yesterday they went through several again to be sure they really were OK with the cuts.

It was another long week of discovering what money is coming to the state from the Feds, and what are appropriate uses for the money. Committees are reporting back their recommendations to the Appropriations committee this week, which means the budget debates will begin next week.
