From Personal Loss to National Leadership: Ohio Cancer Advocate Named to ACS CAN Board

Ohioan Channels Grief Over Wife’s Cancer into a Lifelong Advocacy Mission

April 1, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) appoints a new member from the state of Ohio to the Board of Directors. The Board provides leadership and guidance for ACS CAN, the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, which supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

"We are proud to welcome Vince Marchetta, distinguished advocate with a long history of advocating for cancer patients with the ACS CAN, to our Board of Directors," said ACS and ACS CAN CEO Shane Jacobson. "Our mission to advocate for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone will be bolstered by the steadfast dedication, passion and expertise Vince brings.”

Vince Marchetta lost his wife, Betsy, of 26 years in 2019 to metastatic cervical cancer. After the fog of grief started to lift, a passion for joining the fight against cancer was ignited.

“Betsy’s battle, her story, needed to be heard. The belief nobody should have to hear, 'There is no cure,' drives my efforts daily to make a difference in the fight against cancer,” said Marchetta. “All of my work can't bring Betsy back, but my efforts alongside other passionate ACS CAN volunteers and staff will save so many others.”

“ACS CAN looks forward to an impactful year of cancer advocacy under the leadership of our Board of Directors, particularly with the newly added expertise and influence of Vince. We thank him for his commitment to the organization’s lifesaving mission,” said Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN.

The ACS CAN Board of Directors consists of 19 members who lead ACS CAN in partnership with ACS CAN and American Cancer Society CEO, Shane Jacobson, and ACS CAN President, Lisa Lacasse.
