Cancer Policy has a New Voice in Atlanta
Michael Cortes joins ACS CAN as Georgia Government Relations Director
ATLANTA – Michael Cortes has joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) as government relations director for the state of Georgia. In this role, Cortes will lead ACS CAN’s efforts to advance legislation and public policies to reduce the cancer burden.
“I am honored to advocate for cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and their families,” Cortes said. “I care about our future in the Peach State and like most people, have been personally impacted by cancer in my family. I am especially passionate about increasing access to care and look forward to working with lawmakers on policies to improve outcomes and prevent future cancer cases.”
Cortes previously worked for the American Heart Association and the Florida House of Representatives, where he led similar patient care efforts. He is excited to focus on ACS CAN policy priorities in Georgia, including Medicaid expansion. Cortes holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Florida and a master’s degree in information security from Norwich University. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and son.
