ACS CAN Reacts to Governor Cuomo’s State of the State in which he Called for Restricting the Sale of Flavored E-cigarettes

January 8, 2020

ALBANY, NY – In his State of the State message today, Governor Cuomo called for restricting the sale of flavored e-cigarettes, including menthol, in New York State.

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Senior New York Government Relations Director Julie Hart released the following statement:

“Governor Cuomo’s call for the restriction of flavored e-cigarettes in New York State demonstrates an understanding of the dangers posed to our youth by these products. Flavored tobacco products are used by the tobacco industry to lure kids into a lifetime of addiction. It is crucial that we take action to prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products. Big Tobacco has a long history of targeting the Black American community with its menthol products, so inclusion of menthol cigarettes is crucial. We look forward to working with Governor Cuomo and the state legislature to strengthen this proposal and urge them to pass legislation to restrict all flavored tobacco products, including cigars and menthol cigarettes, to protect all New Yorkers.”
