Name: Punita Khanna
ACS CAN role/title: Legislative Ambassador & ACT Lead
Location: Los Angeles, CA
How long you have been involved with ACS and/or ACS CAN: 4 years
Your cancer patient, survivor, caregiver, and/or connection story: I am a breast cancer survivor.
Why health equity is important to you and/or why you are a member of this group: When I was going through cancer treatment, I noticed the lack of representation of South Asian individuals in information materials, in support groups and in advocacy. I share my story to showcase that cancer affects everyone, regardless of background.
I believe that racial and ethnic minorities should receive the same access to quality healthcare as other population groups. As a volunteer with ACS CAN, I belong to a group of supportive, like-minded survivors, caregivers, family and friends, all dedicated to the goal of ending cancer.
Personal information such as family, job, hobbies, etc.: I have 25+ years of leadership experience in integrated healthcare systems. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Human Biology from the University of Chicago, an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management and a Certificate in Fundraising from UCLA. I enjoy traveling, yoga, hiking and theater.
