The American Cancer Society (ACS) and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) are pleased to submit comments to the Request for Information: Categories Used in Federal Vaccine Recommendations and the Role of Shared Clinical Decision-making.
ACS and ACS CAN are concerned about the impact that potential changes to the federal vaccine recommendation framework could have on vaccine uptake and access, insurance coverage, state policies, and protection for millions of Americans, including immunocompromised populations such as cancer patients. We strongly urge that, given these far-reaching consequences, changes to vaccine recommendations and recommendation categories continue to be guided by rigorous scientific evidence and established evidence-based review processes. We caution that the creation of a parallel framework for evaluating or revising vaccine recommendations risks undermining transparency and public confidence in the federal vaccine system.
