New Poll: Majority of Maine Voters Support Affordable Access to Cancer Care and Continued Investments in Federal Research Funding
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Poll Shows Cancer is Top of Mind for Mainers This Election Season
Washington DC — October 21, 2015 — Chris Hansen, president of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), issued the following statement today following remarks from Vice President Joe Biden about the need for a “national commitment to end cancer.” Hansen’s statement follows:
“We agree with Vice President Biden on the need for a ‘moon shot’ in this country to end cancer. There is bipartisan consensus on this point — we hear it from elected officials every day. We join the Vice President in calling for a sustained national commitment to defeat a disease that will kill an estimated 590,000 people in America this year alone. We need to accelerate the groundbreaking medical research being conducted at the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute and in research facilities across the country. By coupling federally funded research with private sector discovery and innovation, we will continue to develop lifesaving early detection tools, treatments and ultimately cures for cancer. Working together, the government and industry can end this disease for all time.”
