Oregon City Supports Statewide Ban on Flavored Tobacco Products
OREGON CITY, OR — Oregon City has taken a stand against flavored tobacco products by passing a resolution on Wednesday that calls for an end to their sale.
In 2013, as requested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Institue of Medicine convened a committee to conduct a study on the public health implications of raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco products. Key findings include that raising the minimum age for the sale of tobacco products to 21 will reduce the smoking rate nationally by about 12 percent and smoking-related deaths by 10 percent.
