WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through mid-December. The Senate previously passed this legislation in early August. The CR also includes a provision delaying implementation of a proposed Office of Management and Budget (OMB) rule that would change the federal government’s grantmaking framework.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) previously submitted a comment letter to OMB strongly opposing the proposed rule that would reshape how billions of dollars in research, education and public health funding are awarded and comes on the heels of significant disruptions to federal research funding over the past year.

“Protecting the integrity of federal cancer research funding is essential to ensuring that lifesaving investments remain guided by science, not politics. We are grateful that this bipartisan CR provides the stability researchers and patients need by allowing the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute to continue their critical work without unnecessary disruption. Every delay in research is a delay in new treatments and new hope for the millions of Americans impacted by cancer. Now, Congress must finish the job by passing a full-year budget that provides the certainty our researchers and patients deserve, while also working to permanently stop the proposed OMB rule.”
